ULID Generator — A ULID (Universally Unique Lexicographically Sortable Identifier) is a 26-character identifier with two parts: a 10-character timestamp (milliseconds since the Unix epoch) and a 16-character random part. Compare that to a UUID, which is 36 characters and has no time component.

A ULID (Universally Unique Lexicographically Sortable Identifier) is a 26-character identifier with two parts: a 10-character timestamp (milliseconds since the Unix epoch) and a 16-character random part. Compare that to a UUID, which is 36 characters and has no time component.
Because the timestamp is at the front, ULIDs sort in the same order as the events that created them. If you insert two rows into a database and look at the IDs, the lower ID was created first — no separate created_at column needed. The random part is 80 bits of cryptographic randomness, the same collision resistance as a UUIDv4.
