## About

Paste any draft and see the same issues a professional editor would flag: adverbs, passive voice, complex words, and sentences that are too long. Each issue is highlighted in the text with a colored underline; a sidebar shows the totals.

Use it on blog posts, marketing copy, essays, or emails before you hit send. The tool does not change your text — it shows you what to change, and you decide.

## How to use

1. **Paste your draft** — Plain text. The score updates as you type.
2. **Read the highlights** — Adverbs in blue, passive voice in amber, complex words in purple, hard sentences in red.
3. **Rewrite and re-check** — Cut the adverbs, switch to active voice, shorten the long sentences.

## Examples

### A draft blog post

Paste a draft, see the adverbs, see the long sentences, see the passive voice. Rewrite the worst offenders and re-check.

Input:

```
The implementation was quickly completed by the team, but unfortunately the documentation was not really updated.
```

Output:

```
Adverbs: "quickly", "unfortunately", "really" · Passive: "was completed", "was updated" · Complex: "implementation", "documentation"
```

### A marketing email

Marketing copy should be punchy. The analyzer flags long sentences and weak verbs so the draft reads tighter before send.

Input:

```
In order to maximize the impact of your campaign, it is recommended that you carefully consider the timing, the audience, and the messaging.
```

Output:

```
Sentence flagged as hard (28 words, 1.8 syllables/word). "Recommended" + "is" passive. Rewrite: "To maximize impact, pick your timing, audience, and messaging carefully."
```

## FAQ

### Is my text uploaded?

No. The text is parsed and analyzed in your browser. Nothing leaves the page. For a draft you would not paste into a server — a private email, a confidential memo — this is the safe option.

### What does each color mean?

Adverbs (words ending in -ly) are blue. Passive voice is amber. Complex words (3+ syllables) are purple. Hard sentences (over 22 words or 1.7+ syllables per word) are red. Very hard sentences (over 30 words or 2.0+ syllables per word) are darker red. Plain text is unmarked.

### Are all adverbs bad?

No. Some adverbs are necessary ("only", "almost", "just") and some are stylistic choices. The tool flags every adverb so you can see them — then you decide which to keep and which to cut. Hemingway's rule of thumb: if you can cut the adverb and the sentence still reads correctly, cut it.

### Is the passive voice detector accurate?

It catches the common patterns (a form of "to be" followed by a past participle, optionally with an intervening adverb). It may miss unusual constructions and may flag a few false positives. For a deeper grammatical analysis, use a dedicated tool — this is the fast, privacy-first version.

### Why is this different from the Reading Level tool?

Reading Level reports the education grade required to read the text (Flesch-Kincaid, Gunning Fog, etc.). This tool flags the specific words and sentences you can rewrite to make the text more readable. Use Reading Level to measure; use this to edit.
